<-- That's me.
I recently turned thirty, and started thinking about what that number means in our general consciousness. When you're thirty, you're supposed to be an adult, right? But thirty is young! So, I started this blog to explore what it means to be an (assumed) adult, having a job (albeit one in the arts where I get to play a lot of the time) and living in the suburbs (one with a pretty rockin' downtown, five minutes from a major city).
I'm an almost-lifelong Marylander, born in Randallstown, lived briefly in Owings Mills, then spent about 10 years in DC before moving to Silver Spring. My origin was handy when we went to the MVA to get our Maryland licenses and brought the wrong paperwork. Long story which begins with the MVA worker calling up my very first driver's license on her computer, and ends with me signing an affidavit to prove I live with my husband.
And on that note...
I'm married to a wonderful man, a graduate student in Political Science who is a fantastic cook and encourages me to stretch my abilities in the kitchen. We love food, cook together and separately, and dine out as much as time and budget allows. We watch lots of TV, plenty of movies, and talk a lot about everything and nothing, smart and inane.
We have a cat named Iggy, after both Iggy Pop and Ignatius J. Reilly from A Confederacy of Dunces. We also have a turtle named Bob (after Bob Mould), which Jake got on his fifteenth birthday. Bob will outlive all of us.
I love living in Silver Spring, and all it has to offer us. I tend to wax poetic about my neighborhood, but for good reason. There's been a lot of development, even since I've been here for the past 2.5 years, and new amenities spring up every day. It's convenient, artsy, multi-ethnic, and delicious. (Where's my $20, Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce?)
I work full-time in education at a well-known children's theatre. Living the dream, with both a Bachelor's and Master's in theatre (Performance and History & Criticism, respectively). I do a lot of administration, but I also get to teach, write plays, and work with using the arts to teach core curriculum in schools. I also freelance dramaturg, and have worked with a few theatres in the area.
So, that's me in a page. Thanks for looking. Email me if you have any questions.
